Description

Produced in Belgium, Demeyere 5-Plus cookware is constructed of five layers: an 18/10 stainless-steel interior that won't react with foods, three layers of fast-heating aluminum and a magnetic stainless-steel base that's compatible with induction burners. Pans heat up quickly, distribute heat evenly and retain it well for perfect searing, browning and frying. Unlike other cookware on the market, these pans have a flat, stable base that won't bulge when heated, ensuring even cooking. Ergonomic handles stay cool on the stovetop, tight-fitting lids promote energy-efficient cooking, and rolled rims prevent spills when pouring. The cookware is oven and broiler safe to 500F (260C).

This wonderful 9.4" (24cm) fry pan is made in Belgium, and not from some communist country where corners are cut and one's pan starts rusting because it really is not quality metal. One can go on Demeyere's YouTube channel and see all about their Silvinox treatment they do to remove any impurities, leaving a sparkling shine. It also does not have any rivet heads in the pan getting in the way and collecting food particles. It is a designed and made by people that clearly really care about quality. As one can see in my photo, the pan handle as shipped has an extra cardboard wrapper, and the main body is wrapped in white paper inside the box as well as a cardboard wrapper, so it should not have any scratches when it arrives. Cutlery & More did a great job shipping it to me via Amazon.I have used it for a few weeks now. This is how one uses stainless pans: patiently heat them adequately first! That causes the pores of the metal to close up. One does not need to season it, and why would one do that to a Silvinox pan that is designed to stay shiny? I heat the pan first and test it by sprinkling a little water in there to see if it dances. Then I add a drop of oil, and then on that oil I put a tiny pat of butter and spread it around. Then I add the eggs, and then after the bottom cooks a little, I add a tablespoon of water or so, and I cover the pan, and let the eggs cook. When they are done, they come right off the pan with no scraping needed, and taste delicious. Then I add a bit of water, let it set a bit, and then wipe it out with a sponge. It does not look 100% perfect after my minor cleaning, but all I have to do to make it look factory new now and then is a tiny dash of Barkeeper's friend cleanser, wipe it around with a sponge, rinse, and good as new! If one cooks meat in it, the meat will release when it is ready to be turned. Any tasty food particles left behind, fond, is used to make a nice pan sauce. One can watch all the PBS cooking show chefs to see how this is done. There is not much left to clean after the sauce is made in the pan. Demeyere also has YouTube videos on how to cook a steak in it, etc. No need for other stuff coating one's stainless-steel pan, and nothing toxic to ever get in one's food. Life is good! If one really wants Teflon or ceramic coatings, Demeyere has those options too.Now what did I use as a lid on my 9.4" pan? I used the stainless-steel lid from my other Demeyere 5-plus pots and pans. Interchangeable lids, what a concept: The lid for most of their other pots fits this pan as well. I am using the sauté pan lid, but could use the saucier lid, or even the one from the stock pot. Be sure to check the measurements to be sure. The smaller saucepan lid might fit the 8" pan, but not sure since I do not have that pan yet. I originally bought the 11" pan with the glass lid. It is too big for most of my meals, and the glass lid is really solid and heavy, so I prefer using the 9.4" pan for day-to-day cooking. What else is great? The handle remains cool even though pan is hot enough for water to do a little dance in a ball in it. Can pick it up with no potholders. That is what quality design and materials will buy one. The Demeyere 5-plus design has shiny smooth solid handles. The Demeyere Industry5 line is exactly the same except the handles are run through a ball bearing process to give it a textured surface. So, if one is always Mr. or Ms. "butter fingers" maybe that line would suit one more? I prefer the smooth feel of these handles, and being able to polish them back to a mirror when drying after washing. Way better than All-Clad's odd handles in my opinion. All-Clad is made in the USA except for the lids, and it is owned by a French conglomerate. All-Clad does not have Demeyere's Silvinox treatment. Demeyere is currently owned by Zwilling. In fact, Zwilling Aurora pans are the same as Demeyere 5-plus and Industry lines, and made by Demeyere, but it has Zwillng's logo on it, and different handles.I know these Demeyere pans are an investment. I wish I had bought mine years ago. Why I stayed with the cheap department store pans I had for so long is another of my life's regrets. Can buy just the pieces that suit one as one can afford or get one of their sets. Their 7-peice set has most pots and pans anyone could need (4 plus 3 lids). They also have a 10- and a 14-piece set if one cooks for even more people and have lots of storage room. Demeyere has felt pan liners one can buy so one can stack them in one's cupboards and not scratch them, and I use a soft dish towel instead. If one appreciates quality design and manufacturing, this is the pan one has been looking for.We are a big fan of Demeyere pans. Pricey but worth the price. This is our third Demeyere pan. Our other two are larger pans but needed a smaller one for more everyday use. Was a bit hesitant at first with the stainless steel thinking it would be hard to clean, but it cleans up easily. A bit of Bar Keepers every now and then keeps it looking like new!Love it no rivits on the handles to loosenBut take good care....no dish washerI enjoy this productForget about those ads on TV about those no stick fry pans. This is the real deal.Great quality and perfect thickness that allows it to transfer heat well while not being too heavy.Excellent
